Lodge History

Built in 1951 from the design of a New Jersey architect, William Thompson, the original 1,800
square foot home was built for a prominent Wyoming family, the Hufsmith Family, on top of Hufsmith Hill.

Eventually the home reached the hands of a Dutchman and a New England lady. The two envisioned the Hufsmith family home into the Rancho Alegre Lodge we know today. They began remodeling the 1,800 square foot original home to a 10,000 square foot lodge. In 1988 they opened the doors of Rancho Alegre to the public and operated the property as a bed and breakfast.

After spending much time in Jackson Hole, Frank Reilly discovered Rancho Alegre Lodge and checked into the bed & breakfast for a whole month.  He immediately fell in love with the lodge's cozy rustic comfort and in 1995 he was given the chance and able to purchase the property.

Frank Reilly & family wanted to continue the Ranch as it was so kept it as a Bed & Breakfast.  There is no better way to enjoy this valley than to experience it from a private property with 360 degree mountain views and the comforts and charm of this gracious home.

We hope you will become a part of the wonderful memories Rancho Alegre has to offer!
